About

I’m a Senior Product Designer from Eastbourne, UK. I’ve been designing at Day OneDay OneA journaling app for recording daily life, saving memories, and reflecting on past entries., AutomatticAutomatticThe software company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, and Day One.’s journaling app, since it was acquired in 2021. My work spans every part of the app across all platforms, along with the surfaces around it, from paywalls to marketing. Typically I work in Figma, but I spend more and more time designing in code.

At Day One I redesigned the Android app in Material 3, lifting its store rating by two stars, and rebuilt the Android editor from scratch with one developer in a month. I designed Shared Journals inside end-to-end encryption, and Daily Chat’s conversational and voice interfaces, implementing them on both iOS and Android. Earlier at Automattic I led user experience for SimplenoteSimplenoteA light and fast note-taking app made by Automattic. and worked on product design for the WordPressWordPressThe open-source publishing platform behind much of the web. mobile app.

My spare time goes into building tools that bring design and development together, two disciplines that feel too distant at times. Screen RulerScreen RulerA Chrome extension for measuring spacing, inspecting styles, and editing live webpages., a Chrome extension for measuring, inspecting, and editing webpages, is used by 60,000+ people every week. I’ve published twelve Chrome extensions in total, with more than 85,000 combined users. I also built StaatsStaatsA privacy-first Google Analytics alternative built for coding agents., cookieless web analytics for coding agents. It measures every deploy and tells you what changed.

Before Automattic I worked at BusuuBusuuA language learning app where native speakers correct your exercises., the language learning app, in Shoreditch, London. It ran on a small team moving quickly, which taught me to test early and cheap, often by taking to the streets around the office to show prototypes to unwitting members of the public. My career started in freelance, designing a DAW and VSTi plugins, and there are still remnants of that work online.

Now I spend my time thinking in systems. Whether it’s UI components, color palettes, or paywall layouts, I approach each task with maintainability in mind. Get the setup right at the start and you never solve the same problem twice. That’s the whole trick to shipping a lot.
